NFCA Contractor Accreditation Program (CAP)The NFCA Contractor Accreditation Program (CAP) was created by NFCA to provide a means for Fireproofing Contractors to improve the quality and accuracy of installed Sprayed Fire-Resistive Material (SFRM) and Intumescent Fire-Resistive Materials (IFRM).
The National Fireproofing Contractors Association (NFCA) Contractor Accreditation Program (CAP) sets the gold standard for excellence in the fireproofing industry, ensuring contractors demonstrate unparalleled expertise and commitment to safety. Through rigorous education, examinations, and ongoing professional development, the NFCA CAP Program equips fireproofing contractors with the knowledge and qualifications needed to deliver superior fire-resistance solutions, fostering trust and reliability in protecting buildings and lives. The NFCA CAP Program is a company accreditation with individual qualification requirements. The key components of the Program are: EDUCATIONThe NFCA IFRM & SFRM Education provides comprehensive fireproofing industry education to prepare for the IFRM and SFRM Fireproofing Exams. The 1.5-day program covers topics like:
EXAMINATIONFireproofing Contractors seeking accreditation through the NFCA CAP Program must have an individual(s) pass an extensive IFRM and/or SFRM exam to confirm the Contractor’s representative has expertise in the structural fire-resistance industry. Upon receiving a minimum passing score of 80%, the individual is considered a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI). QUALIFICATIONTo qualify for the NFCA IFRM and SFRM CAP Program, Fireproofing Contractors must have at least one individual from the company pass the IFRM and/or SFRM Exam. Additionally, the Contractor must be able to provide proof of fireproofing product training, installation experience, and project completion, if requested. FEES & LICENSINGOnce the Fireproofing Contractor meets all of the requirements of the NFCA Contractor Accreditation Program, has paid the requisite fees, and completed the License Agreement, they will receive an SFRM and/or IFRM seal to designate the company as an NFCA IFRM and/or SFRM CAP Approved Fireproofing Contractor. The NFCA CAP Program requires an initial license fee, as well as annual licensing fees. ANNUAL EDUCATIONAfter the company becomes NFCA CAP Accredited, the accredited Contractor’s DRI must obtain a total of 30 hours of continuing education every three years. The education must be related to the industry, and a certificate of attendance or completion must be provided to the NFCA as verification of the continuing education. CEUs are reviewed every three (3) years to maintain DRI status. If a DRI has not acquired 30 CEUs within the required timeframe, the individual is required to retake the IFRM and/or SFRM Fireproofing Exam.
